The 2025 Tim Brown Memorial wrestling tournament was hosted over the weekend in Sacramento. The Oakdale High School wrestlers took second place as a team with a total of 220 points, only behind first place Buchanan with 350. Spanish Springs (Nevada) placed third at 214; Folsom placed fourth at 211.5 and Elk Grove rounded out the top five with 207.5.
The Mustangs had a pair of first place finishers as Gideon Gerber and Wes Burford were crowned champions. Two Oakdale wrestlers finished in third place with Jesse Meza and Jake Simmons pinning down those honors; Matt Cooley finished in fifth place.
Gerber, at 175 pounds, defeated Bridger Foss of Medford, Oregon in the finals. Burford (215) knocked off Max Keough of Fair Oaks, Bella Vista. In the third-place finishes, Simmons (120) defeated Tristan Pappas of Rocklin (Whitney). Meza (138) won via decision over Carter De la Cerna of Sutter. Oakdale’s 285-pounder Cooley defeated Frank Rodriguez of Escalon.
Next up for the Mustangs will be Valley Oak League duals at Central Catholic on Jan. 15. Wrestling action is scheduled at noon.
