It was a busy week for the Oakdale High School Mustangs wrestling program. On Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 15 the boys headed to Modesto to face off in the Valley Oak League Duals. It was Oakdale coming away with a 5-0 record as they took out Patterson, Manteca, East Union, Mountain House and Sierra. This week they will return to Central Catholic High School to go one-on-one against the Raiders. This showdown is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Jan. 22 with a start time scheduled for 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 17 several members of the team headed to Fountain Valley High School for the Five Counties Invitational 2025. Oakdale had a few placers as Gideon Gerber (165); Wes Burford (215); and Matthew Cooley (285) were all able to take the podium.

Gerber lost his fifth-place match due to an injury default to Junior Bumanglag of Granite Hills of El Cajon. Burford took on Khale McDonnell of host Fountain Valley in the finals. McDonnell won 13-3, major decision over Burford. Cooley finished in fourth place. He fell to Chad Troxler of Liberty of Bakersfield in the third-place match. He lost via major decision 13-1.

The regular season is rapidly coming to a close for the grapplers. On Feb. 1 the team will travel to Lincoln High School (Stockton) for the Section Duals. On Feb. 8 the boys host the VOL Championship at 3 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 15 the Divisional will take place, with the site to be determined. Stockton Arena will be the venue for the annual Sac-Joaquin Section Masters on Feb. 21 and 22. The season finale is scheduled for Feb. 27-28 at the CIF State Championship in Bakersfield.
