Oakdale High School softball went undefeated during the regular season and was rewarded with the top seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Softball Championships. The Lady Mustangs hosted the number 16 seed, Pioneer in the first round and defeated the Patriots 7-1 on Monday, May 13. Two days later they defeated ninth ranked Wood 10-0 in five innings. Wood upset Ceres 13-12 in the first round. Oakdale’s momentum, though, has been halted by rain over the last several days.

In their second round win over Wood, senior Lexie Webb pitched a no hitter and struck out 10 batters. In the second inning Webb hit a three-run home run that scored Rilyn Cassaretto and Brittany Bye to make the score 6-0 with one out.

Cassaretto went 1-for-1 with a triple and was dealt two walks. The outfielder scored three runs for Oakdale.

“We just like playing with one another and want to keep our season going,” said Cassaretto.

Cortney Koelmans had two hits in the win and drove in three runs.

The late May rains forced a postponement in the tournament but when it resumes the Lady Mustangs will take on the fourth seed, Vanden, which has so far defeated Mira Loma 7-1 and Rosemont 3-2. Currently the games are scheduled at Arnaiz Softball Stadium in Stockton. Oakdale was originally scheduled to take on Vanden on Monday, May 20 but that game was postponed. The other two teams still remaining in the tournament are second ranked Del Campo and number three seed Golden Valley.
