Two home games resulted in two victories for Oakdale High School’s varsity soccer girls, as they continue their strong play in the Valley Oak League. The girls are currently 5-0-1 in league.
On Wednesday night, Jan. 15 Oakdale defeated Mountain House 4-1. Friday night the girls shut out East Union 4-0.
In the victory over Mountain House, Oakdale scored two unanswered goals in the first half. Sophomore Dakota Burford scored three goals in the win and freshman Kaia Cox scored the other Mustang goal. Freshman Cassidy Mitchell had one save and allowed one goal. Senior Avery Alves had three saves in the win.
A three goal first half performance against the Lancers helped power Oakdale to victory. Cox had two goals for Oakdale. Fellow freshman Ashlyn Splettstoesser had a goal and senior Kyleigh Melconian scored a goal. Burford added two assists and Splettstoesser also had an assist. In the net for Oakdale was Alves, who had two saves, and Mitchell with one save.
Oakdale will be on the road for their only contest of the week; Wednesday, Jan. 22 the Lady Mustangs will take on Manteca at 6:15 p.m.
BOYS SOCCER
It was a pair of losses for the varsity Mustangs. Oakdale was blanked 5-0 on the road against Mountain House on Tuesday, Jan. 14. On Thursday, Jan. 16 Oakdale traveled to Manteca to take on East Union. The Lancers scored three goals in the first half to pull away from Oakdale. Junior Hector Nunez had a goal and senior Dylan Krause had a goal in the second half but the squad fell short in a 5-2 final. There were no assists on the goals. Mitchell Benning had five saves in the loss.
Oakdale returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 28 when they host Sierra at 5:15 p.m.
JV SOCCER
Oakdale’s JV girls opened their week with a 3-0 win over Mountain House but then took a hard fought 2-1 loss to East Union.
For the JV boys, they battled hard against Mountain House but ultimately took a 4-3 loss. They were behind 3-2 at the half and each team scored another goal in the second half but the boys couldn’t put in the equalizer. They then lost by shut out, 1-0, to East Union.
