Varsity cross country teams first at VOL meet

In another impressive performance, the Oakdale High School varsity girls cross country team took first place in the VOL #2 Cluster Meet. The meet took place on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Mistlin Park in Ripon. Oakdale had a handful of runners place in the top 10. Sophomore Kylie Fast placed third overall at 21:18. A trio of Mustang runners all crossed the finish line at the 21:26 mark. Those runners were freshman Addison Wylie, junior Bradie Evans and senior Ava Calandro to finish fifth through seventh respectively. Sophomore Taylor Reams finished at 22:05 to place 10th.

The boys also finished first as a team in the meet. Just like the ladies, the boys had five runners in the top 10. Senior Jacob Cavanaugh placed third overall at 16:44. Senior Ismael Dominguez crossed the finish line at 16:57 for a fifth-place finish. Junior Parker Whitemyer placed sixth overall at 17:05. Only one second separated the eighth and ninth place finishers. Sophomore Quinn Baca finished at 17:49 in eighth and junior Sean Muturi finished ninth at 17:50.

Both of the races were five kilometers.

“Today we were working as team, not running hard because a lot of runners are running on Friday at the Clovis Invitational (one the biggest and best meets on the West coast),” said coach Guy Fowler. “We are sitting pretty good right now to sweep the league championships in all four divisions.”

The frosh/soph girls placed first as a team in the two -mile run. Summer McGinnis placed third overall at 15:50. Susanna Orr finished in fourth place at 16:59. Anevay Carlson placed eighth overall at 17:33.

For the frosh/soph boys it was a second-place team finish. Oakdale’s Daniel Anderson took first place honors at 12:14. Roman Moreno placed fourth at 12:29. Coltyn Renault finished in sixth at 12:33.
