The Oakdale High School varsity baseball team took care of Weston Ranch this past week in the home-and-home series. Oakdale defeated Weston Ranch 17-3 on April 20 at home. After surrendering a run in the top half of the first inning, Oakdale responded with five runs in the bottom half. With the score 5-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Oakdale hung a dozen runs on the scoreboard to put away the visitors. In the win Oakdale had a total of 15 hits, including three by Landon Nunes. Tate Cassaretto led the team with three RBI. The Mustangs had five doubles in the win. Dom Antinetti, Carson Cripe, Joey Janssen, Gannon Camp and Dominic Solorio each had a double. Noah Chelberg pitched four complete innings giving up just four hits while striking out 10 batters.
Thursday night the boys won 8-1 to wrap up the series. Down 1-0 in the second inning, Oakdale scored three runs to take the lead and never looked back. John Wylie had a pair of hits that resulted in two RBI. Nunes also had two hits for Oakdale. Janssen drove in a team high three runs. Wylie pitched five innings and was awarded the win. He gave up four hits, one earned run and struck out seven batters.
This week the team will take on East Union in a home-and-home series. Tuesday, April 27 was game one of the series at East Union. Thursday afternoon Oakdale hosts the Lancers with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
