Oakdale’s varsity baseball team got into the win column against Central Catholic, winning a game against the Raiders at John Thurman Field in Modesto on Friday afternoon, March 31.

“We won 10-6 in eight innings. We were tied 4-4 after seven, then we scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning,” said head coach Joey Machado. “The inning blew open with Gabe McDonald’s eight pitch at bat, reaching on an error he drove in the go ahead run. After that, we had a few walks then Donovan Johnson had a bases clearing triple.”

Johnson then came in to close out the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

Jordan Haver got the start and pitched well for the Mustangs, while the offensive leaders were Johnson, Alex Jones, and Glen Weber.

“Saturday we lost to Central 12-0. We made a few mistakes early, which against a good team is hard to overcome,” Machado noted. “The boys battled though and refused to give up.”

Monday, April 3 they got back on the winning track as they beat East Union 9-2.

“Standouts was Cade Galuppi on the mound. Alex Jones, Glen Weber and Donovan Johnson had quality days at the plate,” Machado said.

The Mustangs are to play at East Union on Wednesday and then will host the Lancers on Thursday, April 6.

“Next week we are hosting the annual Mark Dickens “Hustle for the Future” Tournament. We open up the tourney against Wheatland High School, at 4 p.m. It is a bracket play style tourney,” Machado explained. “We look forward to continuing to get better, the boys are doing a great job and continuing to buy into the system.”
