Softball girls bounce back with shutout wins

Following their 6-2 home loss to Central Catholic on April 17, the Oakdale High School softball team answered with a pair of shutout road wins over Sierra and East Union. A total of 20 unanswered runs were scored by the varsity Lady Mustangs in the two-game road trip.

On April 23, Oakdale made the trip to Manteca and took on Sierra. Last time these two teams squared off, Oakdale won 13-0. This past week Oakdale nearly duplicated that as they won 12-0. Oakdale wasted little time as they leaped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first inning. Ultimately, the scored 12 runs on 16 hits. A pair of home runs helped secure the win for Oakdale as Presley Barnes and Raegen Everett each hit long balls. Barnes also had a pair of doubles and a total of four runs batted in. Abigail Rushing added three runs batted in for Oakdale.

In the circle were Raegen Everett and Jaelyn Lee. Everett pitched two perfect innings with a handful of strikeouts. Lee came in and pitched three innings, giving up one hit, no walks and struck out four.

Two days later the team blanked East Union 8-0. Barnes continued her big week as she hit her second home run of the week. Oakdale had eight total hits on the afternoon. Morgan Wright led the team with two hits. Briley Everett, Marley Leighton and Audrey Romiti accounted for the rest of the hits for the team. Oakdale used speed on the bags as well as Jayci Volonte and Reese Donaldson each had two stolen bases and Grace Constant also stole a bag. Raegen Everett pitched a complete game shutout. She went seven innings, giving up two hits, one walk and struck out 14 batters. Oakdale swept the Lancers this season.

Just two games remain to be played on the regular season schedule. Oakdale faced Kimball on the road, falling 4-3 on Tuesday. They will host Manteca on Thursday, May 2 at 4 p.m. and the season finale will be May 7 at Central Catholic. Oakdale now stands at 6-2 in league and 16-6 overall.
