Putting an end to a three-game losing streak, the Oakdale High School varsity boys soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over Manteca this week. The road win took place on Jan. 21. It was the team’s only contest of the past week.
Goals were scored by seniors Hayden Koehler and Jason Martinho. Fellow senior Abraham Isidro provided both assists in the game. Martinho has six goals on the year and Koehler has scored four goals this season; Isidro has 10 assists on the season. Mitchell Benning, a junior, was the team’s goaltender in the contest and had four saves. With the win, Oakdale swept Manteca on the season and have a 3-4 record in the Valley Oak League.
Five games remain in the regular season and Oakdale hopes to finish strong and make a playoff push. On Tuesday, Jan. 28 the Mustangs were scheduled to host Sierra. On Thursday, Jan. 30 Oakdale hosts Central Catholic at 5:15 p.m.; they previously defeated the Raiders, 4-1, on Jan. 7.
The JV soccer boys came away with a 1-1 tie against Manteca in their game this past week. They were to host Sierra on Tuesday and then prepare for a road game at Patterson on Feb. 4.
GIRLS SOCCER
In the team’s lone contest of the week, the varsity soccer girls defeated Manteca on the road, 1-0.
Following a scoreless first half, freshman Ceci Cotton scored the game winning goal on an assist from sophomore Dakota Burford. Cotton has five goals this season and that was Burford’s 11th assist on the season. In the net for Oakdale were Avery Alves and Cassidy Mitchell. Manteca did not have any shot attempts in the game.
On the season, Oakdale swept Manteca and did not allow a single goal to the Lady Buffaloes. Oakdale is currently in first place in the Valley Oak League with a record of 6-0-1.
This week Oakdale has two big road games. On Wednesday, Jan. 29 Oakdale will face Sierra. The Timberwolves are in second place in the standings and their lone loss came to Oakdale on Jan. 8 in a 2-0 Lady Mustang win. This Valley Oak League showdown is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
Friday night the girls will take on Central Catholic at 5 p.m. in Modesto. Central Catholic currently has a record of 2-4-2.
The JV girls battled to a 0-0 tie in their game with Manteca this past week and are scheduled to take on Sierra in a 4:30 p.m. road game Jan. 29.
