For the seventh consecutive season, the Oakdale High School girls golf team has won the Valley Oak League championship. The VOL championship tournament was hosted at Micke Grove Golf Links in Lodi last week and the Lady Mustangs were victorious with a scorecard of 465 through 18 holes. Hannah Herschbach sat on top of the leaderboard with a score of 83.
The top eight overall golfers won medals and Regan Shatswell placed fourth overall at 88 and Aubrey Thompson placed sixth overall at 92 to bring home medals.
Finishing out the day for Oakdale were Xcaret Duque (98), Madison Bohannon (104) and Sam Oliveira (116). Herschbach was named the Valley Oak League’s Most Valuable Player and Shatswell and Thompson earned All-VOL honors.
On Monday, Oct. 23 the girls competed in the CIF DIII Championship held at Mather Golf Course in Sacramento. This tournament was held following The Leader’s press time.
Meanwhile, the Oakdale girls tennis team secured the Valley Oak League championship with wins over Manteca and Sierra this past week. Oakdale finished the season undefeated. In the final two VOL matches, the Lady Mustangs were winners over Manteca by a 6-3 final and took down Sierra, 7-2.
In their victory over the Buffaloes, Kaylee Schaver, Riley Avila and Maddie McTague were all victorious in singles action. The doubles teams won 3-0. Led by Kylee Joseph, Sydney Birkes, Jacy Dorr, Emily Correia, Jill McAndrews and Reece Riley. Oakdale capped off the season with a win over Sierra. Payton Avila, Schaver, Riley Avila and McTague were all victorious in singles. The trio of doubles also won their matches. This week features the 2023 Valley Oak League tennis championship matches. Oakdale is the host site. Singles was decided on Tuesday, Oct. 24 following The Leader’s press time. The doubles tournament is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 26 beginning at 9 a.m.
