Oakdale High School cross country teams completed their shortened season as they took on both Ripon Christian and Weston Ranch on the road this week at Stouffer Park in Ripon. The meet took place on Wednesday, March 24. The varsity girls went undefeated this year as they capped off the 6-0 year with wins of 15-45, 15-45. Oakdale took each of the top four spots in the three-team race. Haleigh Humble placed first at 20:39. Kassidy Fmura placed second overall at 22:30. Third place went to Angelica Elizondo at 23:17 and just steps behind her was Kali Jericoff at 23:19 to place fourth.
For the varsity boys it was a 15-45, 15-45 win. Five of the top six spots in the three-mile, three team race were Mustang representatives. First and second place runners were Dax Daley and Caleb Cavanaugh at 17:02 each. Third place went to Dominic Robles at 17:06. Fifth place finisher was Simon Appel at 18:13. Finishing in sixth place was Cesar Flores-Gonzalez at 19:48. Oakdale finished with an overall record of 5-1 on the season.
Going 6-0 on the season were the freshman/sophomore team as they also won 15-45, 15-45. The two-mile run saw Nathan Luca placing first at 12:33. Alex Martinez finished in second place at 13:23. Third place finisher was Carlos Martinez at 14:12. Fourth place went to Alejandro Felix at 14:13 and right behind him was Khriztian Escalante at 14:18.
“This was our first meet on a course that had hills and a lot of grass and dirt;” said coach Guy Fowler. “We performed very well. It is great to have the varsity girls and the frosh-soph boys go through the season undefeated and the varsity boys’ only loss was to one of the best teams in the state. It has been a crazy year but all of our runners put in the time to get better and had a great season.”
GIRLS GOLF
Wednesday, March 24 also saw the girls golf team head to Ripon for a contest against the Indians. Oakdale fell to the home team by a score of 188-192. No individual scores were available. Oakdale wraps up their season at Tracy Golf and Country Club to take on Kimball.
BOYS TENNIS
It was a week that saw the Oakdale boys tennis team play four contests in as many days. The got a couple of wins and took a couple of losses.
“It was a grueling week. Four matches in four days,” said coach Grant Miller.
Individual scores for the week were not submitted but Miller credited Ethan Dingu for his win over Manteca’s second-ranked player 7-6, 7-4. He also credited Carson Stueve by winning at Manteca 1-6, 6-2, 10-1.
The Mustangs travel on Thursday, April 1 to close the season at Weston Ranch.
