Preseason winds down, some league action begins
OM

The end of the preseason is rapidly approaching for many Oakdale High School fall sports, while others have formally gotten their Valley Oak League campaigns underway. The triple digit heat that arrived last week made for some difficult matches and even forced a cancellation. Here is a quick glance at some of the action.

GIRLS GOLF – Oakdale competed in Valley Oak League play on Sept. 5 against Sierra. As a team, Oakdale shot 221 to beat the Timberwolves 221-330. Hannah Herschbach shot a match low 40 on the day at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Bella Cortez turned in a scorecard of 42 for Oakdale. Rounding out the day for the Lady Mustangs were Brynlee McBride (45), Xcarlet Duque and Reagan Shatswell (47 each). Sam Olivera shot 54.

GIRLS TENNIS – A non-league contest that was originally on the schedule at Kimball fell victim to the heat. The squad was due to play there Sept. 5 but the match was canceled as the thermometer reached 102 degrees. The girls were slated to be on the road at Manteca on Sept. 10 to start VOL action and then travel to East Union on Sept. 12.

CROSS COUNTRY – No events were on the schedule for the OHS cross country team this past week but they are scheduled to return to the course this weekend.

VOLLEYBALL – The varsity Lady Mustangs suffered a pair of non-conference road losses this past week. They fell to Escalon 3-1 and Sonora 3-0. This week Oakdale opens league against Patterson and Mountain House.

FLAG FOOTBALL – The first year Oakdale team was off last week but returns to take on Manteca for the season opener this week.
