Pair of shutout victories for Lady Mustang soccer

It was a successful return to the field for the Oakdale High School girls soccer program this past week. Oakdale earned a pair of shutout wins in the return to the field. Both matches were played at home as they won 2-0 over Sierra and battled to a 3-0 victory over Central Catholic.

On Jan. 8 the girls had goals by Lauren Ghigilia and Kyra Binstock to secure the win over Sierra. Dakota Burford had an assist in the win. This was the team’s first game back since late December. Oakdale scored a goal in each half. Avery Alves had four saves in the win.

Two days later the girls used a fast start to defeat Central Catholic. Oakdale scored a pair of goals in the first half to help power past the Raiders. Three different players found the net for Oakdale. Kaia Cox, Dakota Burford and Ceci Cotton all scored goals. Jocelyn Gradilla had a pair of assists and Ashlyn Splettstoesser also had an assist. Alves had three saves for Oakdale and Cassidy Mitchell also had three saves as they split time in the net.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15 Oakdale will host Mountain House at 5 p.m. and then Friday evening Oakdale will host East Union at 5 p.m.

 

Boys Soccer

It had been nearly three weeks since the Mustangs had last played a match. The varsity boys soccer team took the field in a pair of Valley Oak League matches this past week to return to the regular season schedule. On Jan. 7 the boys picked up a 4-1 road win over Central Catholic and then took a 3-0 home loss to Patterson on Jan. 9 to cap off their week.

In the victory over the Raiders, Oakdale had goals by Aiden Ramirez, Abraham Isidro, Jesus Corona and Jason Martinho. Assists were made by Landon Tolboe, Hayden Kohler, Isidro and Corona.

This week they are on the road for a pair of games. On Tuesday night, Jan. 14 the boys were to be on the road to take on Mountain House and will be at East Union on Thursday, Jan. 16 with a 6:15 p.m. start time.
