Junior forward Kyndra Obermeyer recorded a first half hat trick of three goals, all on assists by senior midfielder Trista French, who also added a first half goal of her own, as the Oakdale Lady Mustangs soccer team dominated the El Capitan Gauchos on Monday night, Feb. 13 The final score of 4-0 gave Oakdale the win in a first round match in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs played in the Corral on Monday, Feb. 13.
The hat trick “was very unexpected,” said Obermeyer. “I didn’t think I was going to score three goals. I had three great balls – assists – all from Trista (French). It was really nice.”
Goalkeeper Avery Alves led a stingy defense for the Mustangs. It was very clear that on both sides of midfield, the Gauchos were outmatched. The Mustangs were faster, quicker to the ball, and more deft in their ball handling and footwork, storming ahead to a 4-0 lead in the first 29 minutes of the match. Head Coach Kico Monares was able to substitute freely throughout the match and regardless of the player combinations he put on the field, the result was consistent: Mustang dominance.
The fourth seeded Mustangs will next play the No. 5 seed Roseville, a 1-0 winner of their Feb. 13 match against No. 12 seed, Del Campo. Roseville and Oakdale clash on Wednesday, Feb. 15, starting at 6 p.m. in the Corral.
