Oakdale Squads Preparing For League Action

It was a relatively quiet week for Oakdale High School sports. The fall season consists of volleyball, girls golf, girls tennis, water polo, cross country and football. Water polo and girls golf participated in matches following The Leader’s press time. Tennis and cross country were off.

Volleyball was in action twice this week. The team traveled to Escalon on Tuesday, Aug. 22 where the team came up short in a four-game set. A thrilling first set went to Escalon, 27-25. The Mustangs countered with a 25-21 second set victory. Unfortunately, the girls lost the next two sets 16-25, 23-25 to the host Lady Cougars. Two days later the girls regrouped and came back to win against Enochs on the road. Oakdale won in four sets as they took the first set 25-20 and came up on the losing end in the second set 24-26. Sets three and four belonged to the Mustangs 25-23, 25-23.

Oakdale girls golf took to the links on Monday, Aug. 28 but results were not available by press time. Oakdale traveled to Merced Golf and Country Club to take part in the Merced Invitational. Oakdale returns to play on Tuesday, Sept. 5 to host Manteca. This will be the first Valley Oak League match play of 2023. A tee time is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

Tennis returns on Thursday, Aug. 31. Oakdale travels to Merced at 3 p.m. Valley Oak League play begins with a home match against East Union on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m.

For the water polo clubs, they open their season Saturday, Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept. 4 in a pair of away scrimmages. Matches begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at home against Pitman with a start time of 3:30 p.m.

Cross country gets off and running Saturday, Sept. 9 for the Kim Duyst Invitational in Ceres and the VOL #1 is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Mistlin Sports Park in Ripon at 3:30 p.m.
