The destination was the Frogtown Invitational for the Oakdale cross country team on Saturday, Oct. 5, traveling to the Calaveras County Fairgrounds for the competition.
In the three-mile varsity girls race, sophomore Hannah Beth Norman finished fifth overall in 20:43 and freshman Kassidy Fmura ran the course in 21:38 for a 20th place finish.
The varsity boys took eighth place overall honors in the large school division in the three-mile race. Sophomore Simon Appel was the only Mustang runner to break the top 10, running the course in 16:52 and taking 10th.
Freshman Caleb Cavanaugh was 17th in 17:17 and rounding out Oakdale’s top three was junior Dominic Robles, 18:09.
For the JV boys, they took 10th place in the large school division in the three-mile race, paced by senior Jeremiah Renfrow in 20:01, followed by juniors Colin Rehling, 21:18; and Fabian Gonzalez, 22:11.
It was a fourth place finish for the JV girls in the large school division, running a two-mile distance. Junior Kali Jericoff was sixth overall in 16:47, followed by junior Lauren Schickert, 17:12 and senior Samantha Ballard, 18:39.
The two-mile race for the sophomore boys saw the team take ninth place in the large school division. Top three finishers for the Mustangs were sophomores Cody Morrill, 13:24; Caleb Poling, 13:25; and Eli Elting, 13:26.
Freshman boys ran two miles and finished in fifth place in the large school division. Leading the way were Alex Martinez, 13:59; Khriztian Escalente, 14:15; Adam Jones, 14:33.
“We accomplished what we wanted and that was to get some great training on a hilly course and get familiar with the Sub-Section meet course,” said head coach Guy Fowler. “The team is progressing very nicely.”
The team is also looking forward to the second VOL Meet this week.
