In their first game as members of the Valley Oak League, the Mountain House Mustangs came into The Corral and got a welcoming like no other. The host Oakdale Mustangs scored less than one minute into the game and never looked back in their 54-6 home win.

“Mountain House is a good, athletic program,” said Oakdale head coach Garrett Martin. “It takes time, this is a very difficult and competitive league.”

Just 59 seconds into the game, Oakdale’s Wes Burford made a heads up play on defense as Callahan Healy fumbled the ball and it went right into Burford’s hands. From there, Burford returned it from 24 yards out for a quick Oakdale lead. On Oakdale’s first offensive possession, Burford scored on a 45-yard rushing touchdown, kick good, to give Oakdale a 14-0 advantage. Mountain House drove the ball down the field but came up empty as they missed a 29-yard field goal attempt with just under four minutes to go in the first quarter.

Oakdale then marched down the field and extended their lead to 21-0 on a Chase Lopez 29-yard rushing score, the kick was good, with just 43 seconds left in the opening quarter.

The second quarter saw one Oakdale touchdown and it came from Gavin Wyatt. With 7:03 remaining in the half, Wyatt scored on a six-yard carry to make it 27-0. Mountain House scored their first ever VOL points when quarterback Erin Foster connected with Kaden Ransohoff from 14 yards out. On the point after attempt Oakdale’s Caden Adams blocked the attempt with 1:32 left in the half. Oakdale went into the half with a 27-6 lead.

Keeping the pressure on, the host Mustangs scored three touchdowns in the third quarter. A pair came from Burford, on a two-yard rush, and a 37-yard catch and run off a reception from quarterback Grant Gardner. The third touchdown of the quarter belonged to Richard Flores. Just before his touchdown, Flores recovered a fumble. A few plays later, Flores was rewarded for his defensive efforts by scoring on a 16-yard rushing touchdown with 4:34 left in the quarter to give Oakdale a commanding 47-6 lead. With a running clock in the fourth quarter, Bas Stice scored the only points of that quarter on a 19-yard rushing touchdown with 6:12 left to play.

This Friday night, Oakdale travels to Manteca to face East Union. The Lancers are coming off their first loss of the year as they fell to Sierra 44-32 in Valley Oak League action.

Oakdale junior varsity squad was also a big winner on Friday night, as they defeated Mountain House 40-0.
