In their season opener the Oakdale High School boys golf team put in an impressive performance. On Wednesday, April 14 the team traveled to Manteca Park Golf Course to take on the Manteca Buffaloes. In the road match Oakdale won 224-309. The nine-hole contest saw Oakdale’s Ryan Meyer lead the field with a 37. Meyer sank a pair of birdies in the win. Carson Middaugh shot a 41. Middaugh found his groove as he knocked in six straight par shots on the day. Conor McLuney (44), Grant Weber (48), Mason O’Neal (54) and Levi Duesterhaus (58) wrapped up the day for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs play a total of eight matches this year and wrap up the season on May 12 against Ripon Christian on the road.
TRACK AND FIELD
History was made at track and field on Wednesday, April 14. Pole vaulter Dean Dodge broke the school record when he cleared 14 feet, 6¼ inches. The previous record was held by Rigo Vargas of 14 feet, six inches. Another record that was broken at the meet was by Caleb Cavanaugh, a sophomore, when he broke the 3200-meter race record. Cavanaugh finished at a blazing speed of 9:37.94. The previous record was held since 1972 by Ray Main who finished at 9:46.1. In the same race, Dax Daley finished the race in 10:08. At shot put Emma Harper turned in a personal best as she threw for 41 feet, 7¼ inches.
TENNIS
Girls tennis picked up a pair of wins as they defeated East Union 6-0 and defeated Central Catholic 5-4.
