Nine Oakdale Gators swimmers saw big improvements and stellar times in a three-way Mid Valley Swim League tri-meet with Tracy and Ripon at Ripon High on Saturday, July 17.The Gators finished third to the two much larger programs, but saw faster touches in a successful meet.“This is a time of the season where we’ve been working our Gator swimmers harder in preparation to have them in the best possible form before we taper for championships,” Oakdale coach Brian Fogarty said. “So we expect excellent form and improvements in technique, but the continuing time drops are a bonus that we didn’t expect.”Dustin Vandenbosch came through with a big 50-meter freestyle to improve his previous best by five seconds. Jack Kjeldgaard dropped his 25 backstroke time by three seconds and saw a big win while Mara Semone landed an improved time and meet victory in the 25 breaststroke.Jasmine Maciel and Scarlett Green both made big improvements in the 100 free, while Joseph Guerrero and Rhett Harrison turned in big results with better times in the 50 breast. Tommy Torres dropped an amazing 12 seconds in the 50 breast while Bianca Varela saw a difficult two second improvement in the 100 Individual Medley.Oakdale’s lack of depth could swing in their favor at the packed MVSL championships this weekend, where standout swimmers will have a chance to win their events against the league’s best.Team scores and individual age group results for the Gators were not available at press time.
