Two road games to Manteca resulted in a pair of losses for the Oakdale varsity girls soccer team in Valley Oak League action this past week.
Oakdale (6-7-2, 2-5-2) paid a visit to Manteca to take on the second place Lady Buffaloes on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Manteca (15-4-1, 7-1-1) blanked Oakdale 4-0. Two days later, Oakdale went back to Manteca city limits to face the Lancers of East Union. The third place Lancers (11-4-2, 6-1-2) held the Lady Mustangs to just one goal in each half, taking the VOL win by a final of 5-2.
In the loss to East Union, Oakdale fell behind but netted a goal in the first half when Franchesca Ryan scored to cut the lead down to 2-1 at the half. Her goal was assisted by Emily Siva-Rodriguez. In the second half, Oakdale was outscored 3-1 with Kassy Rodriguez scoring the team’s lone goal from an assist by Ryan.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30 Oakdale hosted first place Sierra (18-0-1, 9-0-0) following The Leader’s press time. This was Oakdale’s first game home since Jan. 11, having to play four straight road games. Thursday, Feb. 1 the girls will host Lathrop (4-8-2, 1-7-1) with a scheduled time of 5:45 p.m. The last time these two faced off Oakdale won 8-2 on the road.
JUNIOR VARSITY
The junior varsity girls team was shut out in a 4-0 contest at Manteca on Tuesday, Jan. 23. No score was reported to The Leader prior to press time for the squad’s Thursday night road game, Jan. 25, at East Union.
