Freshman Jessica Jericoff could be the next big thing to compete for the Oakdale track and field team.

Jericoff took part in the 2017 AAU Junior Olympic Games this past summer and placed 12th overall in the 14-year-old discus throw. The prestigious event was held at East Michigan University.

“That was such a fun time.” Jericoff said. “It was an intimidating event but it was also a lot of fun.”

Jericoff threw for a personal best of 97 feet, nine inches on her second attempt.

Next spring she will be competing for Oakdale High School on the throws team under head coach Brett Chappelle.

“I’ve known coach Chappelle for a few years and he has been working with me on my technique,” Jericoff said.

She also spoke of how former OHS discus standout Hannah Chappelle has prepared her for this season.

“I practiced with her before and Hannah gave me lessons this summer,” Jericoff said.

Jericoff enjoys the challenge of participating in discus and is looking forward to competing for OHS. She understands the commitment it takes to be competitive in the sport and is also looking forward to carrying on the success that Oakdale throwers have had in recent years.
