A trio of Oakdale High School cross country runners competed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Meet this past weekend.
The Section finals were held Friday, Nov. 10 at Folsom where Kayden Legan, James Forkner and Tanner Cusano all ran in the meet. Legan placed 20th overall in the Division III varsity girls 5k run. A sophomore, she finished the race in 20:49. Her 20th place finish was a nine spot improvement from the sub-section meet.
Senior James Forkner completed his four year cross country career with a 50th overall finish among the Division III varsity boys. Forkner finished the 5k run in 18:18. During his time in the Mustangs cross country program, Forkner is a three-time section qualifier. What made his performance stand out was that the senior had been battling a fever and cold as well as fellow runners in the competition.
Freshman Tanner Cusano finished 21 seconds behind Forkner to place 59th overall, running with the varsity squad. Cusano may have been able to finish a few spots higher but was knocked down twice during the 5k meet.
“Tanner gained a ton of experience this year, and will help lead the program next year,” head Coach Guy Fowler said. “Overall, I thought we had an outstanding season. We are graduating a few seniors and their experience will be missed but on the other hand we are so young and loaded with talent the future is promising, if they put in the work in the off season.”
