Monday night, Feb. 5 the varsity Lady Mustangs played their regular season soccer finale for the 2023-24 campaign. The contest between the top teams in the Valley Oak League, Manteca and Oakdale, was played for the Valley Oak League title inside The Corral. The big showdown saw the teams come in with Manteca in first, Oakdale in second. But by the night’s end, the script was flipped: by virtue of a 3-1 win and taking both games against Manteca during the regular season, Oakdale earned the Valley Oak League championship with a 6-2-2 record. Manteca also ended at 6-2-2 but because of the head-to-head games going to Oakdale, the Lady Buffaloes finished second.

Notching two goals and an assist for Oakdale was senior Kyndra Obermeyer, while Dakota Burford also scored one goal and Mia Peterson had an assist. Oakdale was up 1-0 at the half; they scored two more in the second half while Manteca managed just one goal, coming in the second half.

Leading up to this season finale clash was Oakdale defeating both East Union and Central Catholic. On Monday, Jan. 29 Oakdale hosted the Lancers. Oakdale won 5-1. Obermeyer had three goals to lead the team. Peterson also had a goal for Oakdale and added an assist; Burford had an assist in the win. Goalkeeper Keira McCulley had four saves and surrendered zero goals. In the second half goalkeeper Avery Alves had three saves and gave up one goal.

Two days later Oakdale traveled to Modesto to take on Central Catholic. The Lady Mustangs knocked off the Raiders via shutout 2-0. Obermeyer had a goal. Kyleigh Melconian had the other goal. Peterson and Burford each had an assist. In the net Alves played both halves and had one save.
