Dear Editor,
Thank you for the opportunity for us to update the community on events at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.
The recent fundraiser, Once Upon A Tomb – a cemetery walk – was an outstanding October happening.
Originated by Oakdale Museum and History Center, and deftly executed by Amy Velasco, Barbara Torres, and Cindy Webb – it was an historically educational and fun presentation.
Congratulations to the organizing directors, all the actors and supporting cast who portrayed prominent local citizens of the past, buried at OCC. The proceeds from the event that benefitted the cemetery are very welcome. We’ve heard the group is already planning the 2025 Walk. Don’t miss it!
Veterans Day is coming - November 11, 2024. Prior to that day, local Scouting America troops and Cubs will be helping us put out the American flags on our Veteran’s graves. These flags will remain on the graves until December 14, 2024, when they will be replaced by the fresh holiday wreaths honoring our local veterans on Wreaths Across America Day, Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Our patriotic program, a free event, begins promptly at 9 a.m., December 14, near the flagpole on the cemetery grounds. Wreath sponsorships are needed, as well as volunteers to help place them on the graves. All ages welcome. Some seating available, or bring your folding chair.
You may sponsor a wreath (s) for $17.00 each by mailing a check to Wreaths Across America, c/o Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, P O Box 600, Oakdale, CA 95361, or you may order on line – www.wreathsacarossamerica.org/CA00669P. Include all contact info please. The cemetery receives $5.00 back from each wreath sponsored. Order deadline is November 20, 2024.
Oakdale Citizens Cemetery is a non-profit historical entity. Founded in 1883, we are owned privately by the families who have purchased property here, but we serve the general public. Old records do not always reflect current ownership. If you are a descendant of a grave purchaser or family member buried here in the past, we would appreciate having your name and contact information. For more information about this, you may leave your phone number at 209-847-1189 or check our website at www.oakdalecitizenscemetery.org.
As always, we are grateful for your interaction with us. Be it financial, donated equipment or volunteer services – you are appreciated. In return we try to do our best for OCC families and are always willing to address your concerns.
