Sandi passed away at Memorial Hospital, Modesto, CA due to complications from COPD and Pneumonia.
Sandi was 78 years old, she was the daughter of Fran and Duane Guenther.
Sandi was born in Cairo, Illinois. Grew up her younger years in the California area, she used to sneak into Santa Anita Park and watch the horse races. She also hung around with the Beach Boys Band, that made her think she was a big girl. Her parents moved to Modesto, CA her senior year of high school where she graduated from Modesto High School in 1964. With her mom’s permission at the age of 17 years old she joined the U.S. Navy on July 7, 1964 having completed boot camp at Recruit Training Center Command in Bainbridge, MD. She was deployed to Dental Tech School at U.S. Naval Hospital Bremerton, Washington.
She was honorably discharged 6th day of August 1965. After the Navy she moved with her parents to Lake Tulloch, then later moved to Oakdale, CA.
She met her future husband Jim Cunningham at the Stage Coach Inn where they spent many Saturday nights dancing the night away, they were married Dec. 14, 1972, they had 52 years together.
Sandi had three children Tiffany (Verdel) Horselooking, Larry (Jerrie) Cunningham, Derrick (Laura) Cunningham.
Together Sandi and Jim had seven grandchildren, Landen, Alesha, Erricka, Eddie, Tyler, Tessa and Jericho. Also seven great grandchildren.
Sandi is survived by two brothers Jerome (Mariann) Meade and Philip (Linda) Meade of Tucson, AZ and three sister in laws Donna (Kerry) Cunningham, Maxine (Richard) Jewell and Florina (Jerry) Taylor and many nieces and nephews.
Sandi worked as a waitress then later manager of Brawley’s Restaurant in Oakdale CA.
In 1985 she started her own construction business with help from her husband Jim. SJD Construction was in business for 31 years until her retirement.
Services will be held at Oakdale Memorial Chapel with viewing on Monday, Dec. 9, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m., graveside service to follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, 431 North Sierra Ave., Oakdale, CA with a reception to be held at Bachi’s Family Dining, immediately after graveside services.
In lieu of flowers the family asks to donate to the Oakdale Astro Foundation, 157 N. Fifth Ave., Oakdale, CA 95361.
