Patrick Kearns was born June 17, 1938, Teaneck, New Jersey to Patrick and Margaret Kearns. After a battle with COVID, Pat passed away November 5, 2021, at Doctors Hospital in Modesto.
Pat’s family moved to California in 1947. He attended St. Mary’s in Berkeley from grammar through his 1956 high school graduation and from there he found lifelong friends. Pat served his country in the Army from 1957 to 1960.
Pat spent his entire career at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, formally known as Lawrence Radiation Lab. Pat retired in 1996 but immediately returned as a full-time consultant until 2007. His lab career of 43 years began in Field Test and in 1970, after graduating from night college, Pat transferred to the Super Block/PU Building (332).
Pat met and married his soulmate, Rochelle, in 1969 and they enjoyed 52 years together. They had a passion for travel that covered six of the seven continents. In 1981 they moved from Livermore to Oakdale. After retirement they tried living in Texas but soon thereafter returned to their beloved Oakdale. They are active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents Pat was predeceased by two daughters, Michelle Ana, four days and Lisa Marie, 17.
Pat’s surviving family include his wife Rochelle, their daughter Denise, his two sisters Kathleen (Leon) George, and Margaret Eisinger, and his brother-in-law Rod Latta (Terry). He was a proud Uncle to 19, Grand Uncle to 35, and Great Grand Uncle to 15. Family was everything to him and he loved them unconditionally.
All who knew Pat were aware of his great sense of humor along with his infectious laugh. He was a devout Catholic and proud of his Irish heritage. Pat was generous, kind and had a heart that was purer than gold.
There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oakdale on December 7 at 11 a.m. The family will have a private interment service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 1225 Olive Street, Oakdale, CA 95361 in Pat’s memory or a charity of your choice.
