Karl R. Rutherford, Sr., of Oakdale, CA died at age 90 of natural causes.

Born in Texas, Karl moved to California as a youngster. He later met the love of his life and High School sweetheart Joann.

They married in Tulare, CA in 1953 and were married 57 years. Karl worked for 32 years as a machinist for Norris Industries in Riverbank, CA. He retired in 1999. He was very active his whole life, enjoying fishing, houseboating, skiing, golf, pool, tennis, racquetball, ping-pong, street and dirt bike riding. He played baseball for Bob’s Body Shop well into his 50’s. Many have enjoyed and can attest to his very lively competitive spirit. Karl and Joann enjoyed playing card games such as Pedro, Hearts, and Spades with many friends and family. They also enjoyed being on the lake. The early years were spent on Lake Don Pedro, camping, and boating. Karl and Joann taught many family and friends how to waterski and fish. Later during their retirement years, they would spend weeks at a time on their houseboat enjoying New Melones.

Papa, you lived a full life. You and mom are together again at last. We love you.

Karl was preceded in death by, his parents, Emory Rutherford and Myrtle Wilson, and his wife Cleadys “Joann” Rutherford.

He is survived by his sister Jackie Moody. His five children Carol (Joel) Puckett, Karen (Darrell) Bender, Cathy Rutherford, Karl Rutherford Jr., Cynthia (Joe) Navarro. Six grandchildren, JoAnna, Darrell Jr., Allen, Christopher, Kayla, and Joey. Six great grandchildren, Clayton, Catelynn, Darrell III, Brianna, Lauren, and Benjamin.

A graveside service will be held at the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery on October 18, at 1 p.m.; no reception.
