Joyce Ichord (Thompson), born December 13, 1935, in Lexington, Oklahoma, passed away on January 19, 2025. As a young girl, Joyce moved to California with her family, eventually settling in Oakdale, where she attended Oakdale High School and met her husband, Jerry Ichord. They shared 68 wonderful years together, raising their three daughters—Candy, Cheryl, and Shelly—while running their family cattle business.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother. She was known for her kindness, gentle nature, and the deep love she had for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loved ones, and she cherished the many friendships she made throughout her life.
As Joyce’s girls grew up and began making their way in the world, she took up golf, a game she came to love, enjoying both the challenge and the camaraderie it brought. She loved to travel, always eager for a new adventure. But perhaps what she cherished most was the simple pleasure of visiting with family and friends over a good cup of coffee, sharing stories, laughter, and the warmth of companionship.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Ichord; her daughter, Candy Stokman; and her granddaughter, Lindsay Moore (Stokman). She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Dillwood (Rick) and Shelly Ichord (Jeff Van Diepen) as well as eight grandkids and six great grandkids.
Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Joyce’s Celebration of Life will be held on February 28, 12 p.m., at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Community United Methodist Church of Oakdale, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale.
