James William ‘Jim’ Huffman, 70, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 19 in San Francisco.
He was a resident of Cupertino and Oakdale. He purchased a ranch in Oakdale and retired there.
He was born in Bloomfield, Iowa at his grandmother’s house. He graduated from Bloomfield High in 1961 and attended Drake College in Des Moines, Iowa. There, he met Karen Whitson and they married Dec. 8, 1962 (they divorced in 1986).
Mr. Huffman served in the Navy for eight years as an electronics technician, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
He and his wife settled in Cupertino where he worked in the burgeoning computer industry, ultimately retiring from Apple Computer in 2005. He took pride in his work on iBooks and other PowerPC-based Macs.
He was also an avid horseman who enjoyed trail riding and attending horse shows.
He is survived by his daughters, Aleece Hoffmann of Davis, Moya Drayson of San Francisco; sisters, Betty Jo Ritz of Milton, Iowa, and Barbara Huffman of Bloomfield, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his beloved former wife, Karen (Whitson) Huffman; and his parents, William and Josephine ‘Jo’ Huffman of Bloomfield, Iowa.
At his request, no services will be held.
