Ann Barnett left a large loving family and many friends to be with Jesus her Lord after an almost four year battle with cancer.
She was born on November 23, 1954 in Modesto, California to Don and Maxine Viss. Ann grew up in Waterford and attended Waterford schools through junior high. She graduated from Oakdale High School. She attended Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon, Modesto Junior College, and then received a B.A. in Business Administration from C.S.U. Stanislaus in Turlock.
Ann’s family attended Hickman Community Church, where she met Dan Barnett. They started dating in high school and as the story goes, Dan labored seven years for her affection until she relented and they were married in 1977.
Ann and Dan moved to Bakersfield in 1978. Ann worked as an accountant for Kern County for 30 years. For the last ten years of her career she served as County Auditor/Controller.
Faith and service were a focus of her life. While attending RiverLakes Community Church she served many years in adult and children’s ministries. Her faith and strength of character were evident in everything she did.
She is survived by her husband, Dan, and their children: Elizabeth Barnett, Christopher Barnett (Kala), Katrina Barnett, Nathan Barnett (Samantha), Ethan Barnett (Joelle), and 10 grandchildren.
She is also survived by seven siblings: Eric Viss (Jeanne), Laurie Ehret, Peter Viss (Jackita), Max Viss (Carolyn), Rosie Peterson (K.C.), Sarah Carreau (Marco), and Walter Viss. Ann was predeceased by her parents.
A memorial service for Ann will be held on Friday, October 20 at 10 a.m. at RiverLakes Community Church, Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to RiverLakes Community Church.
