Your reporter is honored to announce that we have a winner in our community. Valley Home resident Joseph Perez participated in the 2010 Annual SIR State Poppy Hills Individual Championship Golf Tournament at the Poppy Hills course along the coast in Monterey on October 27 and October 28. The weather was beautiful and the Monterey coastline welcomed the large group of golfers. Thursday’s playing prepared the participants for the championship playing on Friday and when the final scores were tallied and posted on the SIR State Golf website it showed that out of the 72 golfers in the tournament, Valley Home’s star player Joseph Perez finished second with a net score of 67, one point behind the leader. All of his Valley Home friends wish to congratulate Joe on this outstanding achievement. Keep up the great playing!

The Valley Home Community Park is looking great. Little things are being added or fixed and the completion of the long anticipated park is near. The sprinkler system was tested in full working mode on Thursday and it was quite a sight. It made members of the park committee feel goose bumps to realize how close the project is to completion. The picnic benches are under construction by the supplying company in Sonora and should arrive before the end of the month.

Fun and excitement this past Saturday was furnished by a group of Valley Home 4H’ers who got together and assisted the Valley Home Community chairman Joe Perez and his wife Linda by doing a thorough job of picking up rocks and leftover bits of construction debris. They were assisted by Tom Winchester and his tractor which was used to move and re-arrange a couple of the Pioneer line boulders. The 4H work group consisted of Garret Brynhi and mother Kathy, Tyler Furtado and mother Sharon (VHC board officer), Cheyenne Chrisman (VHC board liaison officer) and mother Sallie, Marybeth Carpenter and Ashley Barreto.
When all the work was completed by noontime, the whole gang joined in and had a picnic lunch of hot dogs, potato chips and soft drinks furnished by Joe and Linda Perez. The Valley Home Community Center board members wish to thank the Valley Home 4H members who pitched in and helped this weekend and hope to see them again soon. Remember, the almost finished park belongs to the Valley Home Community!

Just a reminder that rain or shine, the place to be on Saturday, November 13th is at Valley Home School for an opportunity to select and purchase that special item that you have been searching for. It could be something in the line of holiday decorations, that perfect centerpiece for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, antiques, toys, tools (one can never have enough of those for all the projects you plan to work on during the winter months when you can’t get outside), crafts (a handcrafted gift item for Mom and Dad is always prized) and we are told Western items will also be available for purchase. In addition to the many items available for perusal and purchase, our Valley Home 4-H members will be manning a food and drink booth with tasty goodies to tempt your taste buds. The yard sale will be held at Valley Home School from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Remember to mark the event on your calendar and plan to arrive early. Remember “the early bird catches the worm!” and in this case the best buy! See you there!
