Valley Home School summer vacation is beginning to draw to a close and our mind has begun to focus, perhaps a little reluctantly for those of us who have enjoyed a lazy, fun filled summer, on thoughts of school starting up once again and returning to studies.
We received this message from our Valley Home School PTC president, Lisa Jones to help ready us for the new school year. As everyone has had a busy summer and calendar which has not permitted us to get to get together, she is planning to have a PTC Meeting on Monday, August 2nd. Time and place will be sent via E-mail. If you would like to attend this meeting and feel that she does not have your proper E-mail, please send it to Lisa Jones at vhsptc@sbcglobal.net and let her know that you would like to be added to the list for meeting information and PTC updates.
With school approaching rapidly, we would like you to know she looks forward to seeing or meeting you on Wednesday, August 11th when school resumes. She plans to have the PTC Calendar ready so you can mark your personal calendars to attend this year’s planned fun events!
We would also like to welcome all new families to our community and invite you to participate in our club. It is a fun group that enjoys everyone’s input and suggestions so they can have a successful 2010-2011 school year, thank you and see you soon!

We have received word that our Valley Home 4-H had a great week at the County Fair. The following are some of the results with more to come later. The beef project, led by Aaron Soares and Mike Verdegaal had a very successful show. Nathan Soares was the Champion True Novice Market Steer Showman and TJ Verdegaal was Reserve Champion Showman.
The Poultry group was led by Mrs. Erica McDonald and Gunter Brisi and was represented very well by Jessica Hatfield and Kinsey Ollis showing their meat birds and Cody Bartholomew, who showed his fancy Modern Bird. Cody also participated in the dress up contest with his hen “Sam” being dressed up as a “Jelly Belly.” All the kids did a fantastic job and a huge thank you goes out to their leaders!
The Meat Goat group, led by Scott Heaton, also had a great week. The group had many class winners and was then chosen best overall group. Katie Schwandt won Novice Showmanship and Jenna Heaton, representing Valley Home as well as Oakdale FFA, was the Champion Freshman showman.
Doing a great job and representing our club very well were our auction runners, Sierra Haynes, Katie Schwandt, Jenna Heaton, Heidi Schaefle and Luke Pouncey.
Results from the other projects and groups will be coming soon! Also, club president, Jenna Heaton and her team of officers are eagerly looking forward to the coming 4-H year! Many exciting and fun activities are already being planned. First meeting of the year will be the first Tuesday in September! Jenna asks you to plan on being there for sign-ups. New projects as well as current projects will be offered!
A reminder is also to members to start growing those pumpkins for the “Pumpkin Contest” being held in October. Lots of great prizes and a CHANGE in the Scarecrow contest. Decorate a scarecrow and bring it to the event to win prizes!

Last, but not least, we offer a very happy late birthday to Scott Heaton. Scott celebrated his big day on July 15 and was at the State Fair and had a great day watching his daughter, Jenna show.
