A Friday, Oct. 7 traffic stop in Oakdale resulted in officers finding much more than they bargained for.

Oakdale police officers reported spotting a reckless driver and contact with that driver resulted in getting a ghost gun off the streets. Officers saw the car being driven recklessly at East J Street and South Sierra Avenue. They pulled the driver over and discovered that the 16-year-old driver was also driving without a license.

A search of the vehicle turned up a so-called ‘ghost’ gun – an unregistered gun that can be built or bought without a background check. The ghost gun was an AR-15 style rifle hidden behind the driver’s seat.

The teenager was booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on numerous gun charges, driving without a license, and driving recklessly.
