It has been several weeks since the Royse Memorial Pool’s grand opening for the summer and classes have never been busier.

Everything from the open swim to the formal classes have seen steady growth, and there have been waitlists for almost every class offered, from private lessons to adult aerobics classes.

Most of the children’s swim lessons and private lessons were the first to book up very quickly, keeping the pool staff on the go this summer. The recent string of hot weather – including several days of triple digit heat – saw plenty of people visiting the pool adjacent to Dorada Park to take a dip in ‘The Plunge.’

“Our goal is to make the pool a very friendly and welcoming place, you walk in and we have our cashier here, it’s $1 for 13 and under, and $2 for 14 and over so we can keep everything reasonable,” Aquatics Recreational Manager Alanna Bryant stated of the cost per day to swim. “We want to keep that welcome family fun environment for the community.”

Open swim is Monday through Thursday, noon to 4 p.m.; Friday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., with family swim from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays. The pool will close for the season the first weekend in September, and open swim will be available weekends only starting in August due to the reopening of school for the new year.

Just recently, the popular water aerobics class opened a couple more time slot options that still have availability. Both are in the evening, one running from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., and the next from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Classes are $4 per lesson and go for 10 lessons two times a week for a total cost of $40 with the choice of Monday/Wednesday sessions or Tuesday/Thursday.
