Observing ‘Socktober’ throughout September and October, the Native Daughters of the Golden West-Oakdale Parlor No. 125, is asking residents to contribute socks of all types. The socks are being collected for distribution to men and women serving in the United States military.

The drive is being hosted by the local parlor in support of the Mid-Cal Blue Star Moms organization.

New socks of all types – wool socks, cotton socks, sports socks and more – are being accepted. They will be packaged and sent to military service personnel overseas and will be an added gift from home for the holidays for the military men and women.

Two donation sites are set up in Oakdale; you can drop the sock donations off at the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce, 590 N. Yosemite Ave., or at the Oak Valley Hospital Gift Shop, 350 S. Oak Ave.

More information about the ‘Socktober’ effort is available by contacting Leslie Pettinger at 209-765-6547 or by emailing lpettinger@aol.com.
