'Scouting For Food' bag distribution slated
Scouts

It is almost time for Cub Scout Pack 365’s annual Scouting For Food service project.

“This year, we are partnering with two local troops, Scouting America Troop 365, and Scouting America Troop 43,” said spokesperson Anna Wooten. “On Saturday, November 2, our scouts will be canvassing neighborhoods in Oakdale and dropping off grocery bags.”

A week later, the scouts will be on the move again.

“We will return the following Saturday, November 9 with hopes of picking up bags filled with non-perishable food items, that will be donated to Oakdale Community Sharing Food Pantry, to help local families in need this holiday season,” Wooten explained. “Bags must be placed in a visible spot by 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 9.”

Several neighborhoods throughout Oakdale will see the grocery bags dropped off; Wooten said they received a total of 4,200 donated bags and are finalizing where they will distribute the bags.

She offered thanks to the stores that donated the paper grocery bags this year: Save Mart Oakdale, Raley’s Modesto, Raley’s Oakdale and Save Mart Modesto.

“On behalf of our scouts, and the families who will benefit from your generosity, thank you for making a difference,” Wooten said.

All varieties of non-perishable items are sought, from soups and canned vegetables to spaghetti sauce, chili beans, canned fruit and more.

The grocery bags will be distributed to homes, but Wooten said all donations are welcome.

“If there are any businesses that would like to donate, they can reach out to me at familypack365@gmail.com or at 714-330-2882,” she said.
