Local scouts from Troop 365 lit up the evening – literally and figuratively – during a unique “Epic Survival Skills Night” on Monday, April 7. The gathering was staged at their home base at the Community United Methodist Church on Poplar Street in Oakdale.
With a special invite extended to youth ages 11-18, the event drew in 16 enthusiastic guests, plus several curious younger siblings who came along for the adventure.
The evening was packed with hands-on learning, laughter, and fun as the Scouts showcased essential outdoor skills. Guests learned how to set up a tent like a pro, spark a flame using only flint and steel, and craft the ultimate s’more; all the activities earning smiles all around.
“It was awesome seeing so many new faces learning and having fun,” said one troop member. “It’s what Scouting is all about – skills, friendships, and adventure.”
Troop 365 is looking for new members and said now is the perfect time to get involved in Scouting America. Registration is open for boys and girls ages 11-18. Troop 365 stays active year-round with monthly camping or hiking trips, community service projects, and some overnight adventures as well, including recent past trips aboard the SS Jeremiah O’Brien and to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
For those who didn’t get a chance to attend the survival skills program but want to learn more about Scouting, guests are welcome to visit any regular troop meeting, each Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale.
