It was Opening Day for the Oakdale Soccer Club season on Saturday, Sept. 10 and the weather cooperated, cooling off from the triple digit temperatures that baked the region during the week. Here, players from the Javi’s Mexican Restaurant and Sconza Candy Company-sponsored teams do battle in a morning contest. There were some opening ceremonies, refreshments, raffle drawings, silent auction items and more. There are 77 different teams playing, spread across five different age groups: U6, U8, U10, U12 and U15, with boys and girls teams in all divisions. Serving as major sponsor for the Opening Day ceremonies and festivities was Oakdale VFW Post 2922.
