If the name doesn’t get your attention the smile and energy of Diana Medina, owner of Giddy Up Nutrition, certainly will. Now entering her fourth month as owner of the 1214 W.F St., Suite A3, Oakdale location, Medina shared she is embracing this new chapter of life.
“I just want to help the community get a little bit healthier or at least have that option,” Medina shared.
Spending the past 20 years as a CNA, Certified Nurse Assistant, the first-time business owner shared that while this has been a major change, she welcomes it.
“It’s gotten me out of my comfort zone for sure. Talking to people,” she said, noting her previous career was spent working the graveyard shift as a CNA.
“So, I didn’t talk to a lot of people,” Medina continued. “I’ve been able to meet a lot of new people and talk to them. It’s good. I like it.”
The West F Street nutrition business offers a variety of meal replacement shakes, high protein baked goods, energy teas, as well as nutrition shots.
While the “Happy Teas” and meal replacement shakes are popular, Medina has had some fun adding the baked goods to her menu.
Continuing with the theme of “out of her comfort zone,” it’s been with the help of a friend’s daughter, Naomi Ybarra of Riverbank, that the new items have been created. Yummy treats such as protein waffles, protein donuts, protein bites, protein cheesecake and the newly created Persian Love Cake are all available.
“I try to get creative. My friend’s daughter helps me create new little pastries with the protein,” she said of the baked good options.
All items served and created at Giddy Up Nutrition are done so with a base of Herbalife products, a protein shake base that Medina herself began using three years ago.
“These products are amazing and if you’re consistent, like everything, you can have positive results,” she shared.
Medina further stated, she wants the community to know it’s a healthy option. Her doors are always open. She’s not only friendly, but believes in the products. Each of the specialty shakes are 250 calories; skinny shakes are 200 calories; they also provide 21 vitamins and minerals.
“It’s a lifestyle change, you have to be consistent,” she said of seeing the product working in your life.
Among her preferred items on the menu, Medina shared the Donut Shot and the Happy Teas are her favorite.
The Donut Shot serves as an appetite suppressant and is good for fighting stomach fat, while the Happy Teas are an alternative to energy drinks.
“It’s pretty good. It keeps you focused,” she said of the teas. “It won’t give you that midafternoon crash, but it won’t keep you up all night.”
As a one woman show, the business hours of Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., don’t seem to have an effect on Medina. As she speaks of the products, the business and her clients, her eyes sparkle and her bubbly personality becomes infectious.
“It’s exciting. I enjoy it. It’s turned me into a totally different person,” she said. “You know how they say you have your different stages of life? I like this stage a lot.”
