With the 70th annual Oakdale PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) Rodeo coming up the second week of April, event deadlines are coming up even quicker.
The rodeo parade applications are due April 1 and can be picked up at the Oakdale Leader or found on the website, oakdalerodeo.com. If anyone has an interest in volunteering to help out at the parade, Oakdale Saddle Club’s Sutton Castillo is offering a free entry ticket into the rodeo Saturday or Sunday. More information on volunteering can be obtained by calling Castillo at 209-493-9572.
Rodeo tickets are currently available for pre-sale for $15 on the Oakdale rodeo website or on the day of the event at the gate for $20.
On Tuesday, April 5, local team roping will commence starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds; sign-ups begin at 5 p.m.
Thursday, April 7 at 6 p.m. is the Rodeo Queen Coronation at the Oakdale Cowboy Museum. There is no cost to attend; hopefuls take part in competition including speeches, horsemanship, and ticket sales. The winner will represent the Oakdale Rodeo throughout the state at rodeos and other local parades and events.
Friday, April 8 at 8 a.m. is the Timed Event Slack at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds; admission is $5 and events include team roping, tie down-roping, steer wrestling, and women’s breakaway roping.
Saturday, April 9 at 9 a.m. is the Oakdale Rodeo Parade, forming up near Oakdale High School and making its way on to F Street, heading east along F Street to the Maag Avenue intersection, dispersing at SaveMart. The parade features a Grand Marshal, equestrian units, local businesses, bands, classic cars, and more.
Also on Saturday is the Timed Event Slack at 8 a.m. at the rodeo grounds, admission $5, including team roping, tie down-roping, and steer wrestling.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the Grand Entry at the Rodeo Grounds will kick off the start of the first day of PRCA competition in the arena.
At the Rodeo Grounds Clubhouse on Saturday night, those 21 and over can enjoy the Oakdale Rodeo Dance at 7 p.m., costing $10 for admission at the door only, offering live music, dancing, and adult beverages.
Sunday, April 10 at 10 a.m., join in for Cowboy Church at the Rodeo Grounds Clubhouse where Coy Huffman provides an opportunity to attend church with some of the world’s top cowboys.
Sunday’s Grand Entry is at 1:30 p.m. at the Rodeo Grounds, followed by the second day of rodeo competition.
