Though average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 5.9 cents per gallon in the last week, they are still lower than year and month ago levels.
Prices averaged $4.33 per gallon as of Aug. 5, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 17.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 48.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 2.3 cents in the last week and stands at $3.76 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.84/gallon while the most expensive was $5.19, a difference of $1.35/gallon. The lowest price in the state on Aug. 5 was $3.65/gallon while the highest was $8.55, a difference of $4.90/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.44/gallon. The national average is down 5.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 37.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“With oil prices plummeting due to new concerns over the U.S. economy after a poor jobs report, gasoline prices have seen downside in many states, with potential for more to join that trend this week as previous refinery disruptions in the Great Lakes region fade away and the restart process begins,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.35/gallon, down 0.4 from last week’s $4.35; Oakland - $4.62, up 0.5 cents per gallon from $4.62; and San Jose - $4.55, up 2.6 cents from last week’s $4.52/gallon.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the lowest Aug. 5 average in Modesto was $2.44 per gallon in 2016 and the highest was $5.24 in 2022. Nationally, the lowest U.S. average on Aug. 5 was $2.12 in 2016, the highest was $4.06 per gallon in 2022.
