It was a busy Monday for Oakdale Police Department officers on March 31, with a pursuit and a potential standoff.
Shortly before 11 a.m., officers attempted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations but the driver of the motorcycle refused to yield. He took officers on a brief pursuit, which went out to the area of Knox and Post roads. The motorcyclist first was southbound on Post, but then did an abrupt U-turn to head northbound and ditched the motorcycle in the 1000 block of Post Road, said officials.
The suspect was found hiding under a trailer in the area and was taken into custody. Identified as Kevin Ayler, 48, he was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless evading an officer, resisting arrest and driving without a license. He was booked on $75,000 bail and has a court date of April 3.
Officers were also sent to a reported family disturbance on Naturewood in the city shortly before noon; there were reports of a subject possibly barricading himself in a home after a disturbance involving a weapon. Authorities said the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene but it was determined that the family disturbance did not present probable cause for any charges. There were no arrests made.
