Plans are moving full speed ahead for the 150th birthday celebration of the founding of Oakdale, with the Oakdale Enrichment Society taking the lead.
They are now accepting entries for the parade, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 26. Four days of activities are being planned to celebrate the 150th, starting on Thursday, June 24 and running through Sunday, June 27. The bulk of the festivities will be on Saturday, June 26 and that includes the downtown parade, which will step off at 9 a.m.
The parade route will begin at the corner of Gilbert and West F Street, across from Walgreen’s and proceed east along Highway 108 (F Street) ending near the corner of East F Street and Maag Avenue, in the Save Mart parking lot. Staging for the parade will take place near the high school roundabout, continuing along G Street toward the library.
Roads along the parade route will be closed beginning at 8 a.m. on that day and the parade could take two hours or more, depending on size and the number of entries.
“We are very excited about this event, and we hope that you will make your way to the parade route to help celebrate our fabulous town,” Oakdale Enrichment Society members said in announcing the call for entries.
There is no judging and no particular order for entries, OES members just want all to join the parade and help get the day’s festivities started off on the right foot. A link to the parade entry form can be found on the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce website.
