With the start of the 2024-2025 school year, it’s also time for a new student board representative to start a year of service on the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board. This year, it’s OHS senior Landon Arnold filling the role.

“I’m expected to attend all the board meetings, stay up to date of what’s going on with the school and what goes on at the meetings, participate in the meetings, and be the voice for the school,” Arnold said of representing the entire student body through his service on the board.

Arnold is involved with many clubs and activities on campus. As a cross country, track, and Academic Decathlon competitor for Oakdale High School, he finds himself connected to many different aspects of the school.

Arnold is also involved in both S-Club and a book club.

“One of the things I love to do is I love to read, so I started a book club on campus,” he explained.

Arnold also said he wanted to do leadership for his senior year to be even more involved with on campus events. He is continuing this leadership mission through the school board, where his position allows him to do much more than his leadership classes.

“I wanted to do this position because I felt like it was a position where it seemed really interesting where I get to go to the school board meetings and it was a position where I felt I could make the most impact in the school and not just in the little activities we do for leadership,” he explained.

Arnold is prepared and excited to take hold of this opportunity, involve himself with the finer facets of the school board, and connect with his fellow board members, classmates, and community members.

“I’m most looking forward to being a part of the school board meetings,” he explained, eager to serve as a voice for fellow students. “It’s very interesting to see what’s going on in our school and get to be there up close and personally.”

After high school, Arnold seeks to continue his education at UCLA as a biology major and wants to get into a pre-medical program.

Arnold advised those interested in the student school board representative position that “it’s an interesting way to be a part of leadership and be in that class and be involved, but also it’s a position where you are doing something else outside of leadership where you can get another perspective and experience through the school board meetings so you can get two experiences in one.”
