The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 1 through Monday, Aug. 7. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, AUG. 7
Battalion 2: Engine 26 was dropped off for repairs at fleet.
3:34 p.m. – E26, E7 and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident on Claus near Plainview. On arrival one vehicle was found to be on its roof, all occupants were out. Ambulance was on scene and took patient care, E26 assisted with clean up, E7 cancelled.
Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday weekly apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Crews trained on hose line deployment and pumping.
Boat 29 trained on the Stanislaus River, focusing on boat operating techniques.
SUNDAY, AUG. 6
Battalion 2: Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District personnel focused on Engine and Station Maintenance.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Crews trained on Probationary Firefighter sign offs and drivers training.
6:47 p.m. – Engine 26, 7, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 to Rain Tree for a potential structure fire, smell of smoke inside the residence. Crews arrived on scene and searched the home for any sign of smoke. Firefighters found no signs of fire or smoke in the residence and the balance of the assignment was cancelled.
SATURDAY, AUG. 5
Battalion 2: Crews trained with two new firefighters.
Battalion 5: 6:32 a.m. – Modesto Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, BC5, and Cal Fire responded to a vegetation fire at Woodward Reservoir. Brush 28 arrived on scene of a 5’x5’ area of dry grass that had burned and was out. Brush 28 cancelled the responding balance and mopped up the area.
1123 a.m. – Modesto Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, Brush 29, and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire in the 12000 block of Horseshoe Road. Crews located a four-acre vegetation fire in light flashy fuels that was surrounded by an almond orchard. Crews stopped the forward progress and mopped up the area.
12:16 p.m. – Modesto Squad 11, Stanislaus Engine 26, Quint 22, and BC2 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with pin-in at Lon Dale Road and Valley Home Road. Squad 11 arrived on scene with two vehicles involved with one person still trapped inside a vehicle. Squad 11 extricated the entrapped patient who was then transported by air ambulance to a local trauma center. There was a total of five patients with two of them being transported. CHP is investigating the accident.
7:47 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 responded to a water rescue in the 14000 block of Orange Blossom Road. Water Rescue 29 located a person who had flipped their kayak and was stranded on the riverbank in thick vegetation. Water Rescue 29 was able to transport the person to Honolulu Bar Recreation Area and Water Rescue 28 retrieved their kayak downstream. There was no medical need and the ambulance was cancelled.
FRIDAY, AUG. 4
Battalion 5: 9 a.m. – Modesto Water Rescue 18 and Water Rescue 29 conducted a water rescue boat training with members from American Canyon Fire Department. Members of the Modesto water rescue program covered boat specification, maintenance, and operation.
THURSDAY, AUG. 3
Battalion 2: Chief Tietjen provided a department update over a Zoom call.
Battalion 5: Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 26, Engine 29 and BC5 completed MCI/Active Shooter training review.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 2
Battalion 5: Crews attended MCI/Active Shooter training.
Engine 27, 28 and BC5 performed a walk through/pre fire plan of Oak Valley Hospital.
TUESDAY, AUG. 1
Battalion 2: Station 24 and 26 both attended National Night Out events.
Station 26 performed hose drills with their station rider.
1:07 p.m. – Full vegetation fire response was sent to Rice Road/Albers. On arrival a 50’ strip of roadside grass was on fire with a slow rate of spread. E23/W23 were able to handle.
Battalion 5: Probationary Firefighter Riley McHenry raised the flag at Station 27 on his first day on duty.
Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
1:15 p.m. – Brush 28, Engine/Water Tender 23 to Claribel and Albers for a vehicle fire. While returning from a vegetation fire, Brush 28 arrived on scene of a passenger vehicle fire. They extinguished the fire without incident.
4:28 p.m. – Engine 28, 29 and Battalion 5 to 28 Mile Road, cross of Woodward Lake Road for a motorcycle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find one patient down in the road with moderate injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was reported to have injuries but fled the scene. Firefighters and medics treated and packaged the single patient. The patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Crews attended several National Night Out events in Oakdale and Valley Home. It was a great evening interacting with the community.
