Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 15 through Monday, Aug. 21. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, AUG. 21

Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Members of the fuel reduction committee began four days of heavy equipment training at Fire Station 17.

8:57 a.m. – Engine 27 responded along with Truck 5, Engine 4, Engine 6, Engine 1, Engine 19, Engine 27, BC1 and BC3 to a working residential structure fire in the 2000 block of College Avenue in Modesto. Truck 5 arrived to find smoke from the garage and attic space of a one-story single-family residence. Crews operated in the offensive mode containing the fire to a small room in the attached garage. The fire is currently under investigation.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 19

Battalion 2: 8:39 p.m. – MST units responded to a vegetation fire on Warnerville Road east of Tim Bell Road after lightning had come through the area. Brush 28 located a roadside fire that was quickly contained.

Battalion 5: 7:12 a.m. – Engine 27, 28 and Battalion 5 responded to Yosemite Avenue for a rescue, person caught in machinery. Upon arrival of the first engine company, plant personnel had the patient removed from the machinery and had them out in front of the facility. Firefighters treated the patient for moderate injuries. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

E27 continued signs off, specifically lowering and raising rope systems.

10:03 a.m. – Water Rescue 28, Engine 29 and BC5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for the report of a male that flipped a kayak and now was underwater. Once on scene a unified command was set up with Stanislaus County Sheriff. Crews searched by boat and by helicopter for over an hour. The person was never found during that time. The scene was then turned over to SO for body recovery; it was recovered later in the day.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 18

Assisted by Modesto’s Wastewater Department, the fuel mitigation team performed building removal and completed groundwork to relocate some rescue props at the RFTC.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Crews from E27 and E28 trained on hose deployments, ground monitors and laddering buildings.

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 17

Battalion 5: 5:38 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident on Valley Home Road at Lambuth Road for a vehicle vs. a horse. Engine 28 arrived on scene with two vehicles involved vs. two horses. There was a total of four patients; two patients were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals and two patients declined transport. Both horses were deceased, CHP is investigating the incident.

10:10 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Engine 26, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Milton Road and Sonora Road. Crews arrived on scene with two vehicles involved and provided patient care to two patients that were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals with minor injuries.

4:03 p.m. – Modesto Engine 7, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 responded to a water rescue at Jacob Myers Park. Water Rescue 28 located two victims that had fallen from their raft and safely brought them to shore. Both patients were evaluated on scene by Oak Valley Ambulance and refused transport to the hospital.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16

Battalion 2: Crews rotated through CPR training and the use of Imagetrend.

Battalion 5: 9 a.m. – Modesto Engine 29 assisted CalFire TCU with cleaning up fire retardant used at the Gray Fire on July 29 in the 12000 block of Orange Blossom Road.

7:16 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 responded to a water rescue in the 5000 block of River Road on the Stanislaus River. Water Rescue 28 located one person on a raft that had not been seen or heard from for over an hour. Water Rescue 28 assisted them to Jacob Myers Park and there was no medical need.

 

TUESDAY, AUG. 15

Crews trained on boat operations along the Stanislaus River.

12:22 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 27 and BC5 responded for a subject who fell off a horse at Woodward Reservoir. Engine 27 and Engine 29 performed a patient assessment and packaged the patient for transport while waiting on the ambulance. Once the ambulance arrived the patient was transported to a local hospital.
