Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 8-21-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Monday, Aug. 19. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, AUG. 19

Battalion 2: All monitors and defibrillators were rotated through Station 22 for service by the department’s vendor.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Crews conducted company level training.

BC5 attended the East Stanislaus Fire Safe Council meeting in Oakdale.

Engine 28 checked the vegetation fire on Cimarron Trail from the previous shift.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 18

Engine 12, Engine 27, Engine 5 and Truck 5 performed probationary firefighter training at the RFTC.

Battalion 5: 11:17 a.m. – Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a juvenile that had fallen off a horse at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds. The 11-year-old female suffered a traumatic head injury and was taken to Oak Valley Hospital where she was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

7:16 p.m. – B28, G27, WT27, OES4615 and E26 responded to Cimarron Trail Road for a vegetation fire. Crews arrived on scene and found grass burning along the river. They extinguished the fire in 10 minutes and cleared the scene after mopping up.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 17

Battalion 2: 6:21 a.m. – Engines 7, 26, T5 and BC1 responded to a vehicle fire in a tow yard. A vehicle from an earlier accident caught fire and began spreading to other vehicles. The fire was contained and did not spread to any other building.

3:47 p.m. – Engine 26 and Modesto Medic 1 responded to a vehicle into a wall on Patterson Road near Jackson Avenue. The driver was unresponsive, and after 25 minutes of ALS care, the patient was declared deceased.

Battalion 5: 12:57 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries in the 9000 block of Pioneer Road in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene with one vehicle off the roadway into a tree. Crews extricated one immediate patient from the vehicle, and they were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. CHP is investigating the accident.

4:48 a.m. – Modesto Grass 3, Engine 9, and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire at Claribel Road and Terminal Avenue. Engine 9 arrived on scene with a 100’ x 100’ vegetation fire in dry grass; crews quickly extinguished the fire and mopped up hot spots.

Modesto Engine 27 and BC5 participated in a Public Education event at the Oakdale Airport.

5:22 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Quint 22, and BC5 responded to a natural gas leak inside a residence in the 200 block of North Fourth Avenue in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and secured the gas until PG&E arrived.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 16

Battalion 2: Safe Kids Stanislaus donated over 60 life jackets to the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District. Through our life jacket loan program, we lend life jackets to adults and children in our area to help keep them safe when in and around the water.

Battalion 5: 6:31 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28 responded to a vehicle fire at East F Street and Hallman Lane in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived with one vehicle on fire in a parking lot and quickly extinguished the fire.

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 15

Battalion 2: Stanislaus Engine 22 and Engine 26 trained at Station 17 in preparation for the upcoming 10-month firefighter testing.

Battalion 5: Crews conducted company level training.

Crews completed apparatus and station maintenance.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14

Battalion 2: Engine 26 hosted Quint 22, Engine 7, and Engine 27 for a FMA drill at Aeriz in Riverbank. They toured the facility and completed an aerial master stream drill/sign off for firefighters attending.

Stanislaus crews worked with EMS to update programming on new Life Pack monitors at Station 22 in preparation of adding ALS companies.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Crews attended FMA training in Station 26’s area.

Engine 27 attended drivers training at Station 11.

7:31 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to a motor vehicle accident at Yosemite and Meadowlark. Crews arrived on scene to find the roadway blocked. One patient was declared deceased by paramedics. One patient was treated and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

10:08 a.m. – Engine 28 responded for a medical aid and arrived on scene to find a patient ALOC. Firefighters and Paramedics treated the patient and transported them with one firefighter on board to assist with patient care.

10:21 a.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to a medical aid for a subject in cardiac arrest. Firefighter/Paramedics arrived on scene to find a family member performing CPR. After a quick evaluation, ROSC had been obtained. The patient was packaged and transported to a local hospital with one firefighter/paramedic retaining care.

5 p.m. – HazMat 41, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to assist the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. Crews arrived and set up to evaluate several items removed from a house by SO. Crews utilized their technical expertise and their equipment to test numerous samples.

6:18 p.m. – Engine 7, Grass 3, Grass 21, Water Tender 21, Grass 26 and Battalion 5 responded to Mesa Drive and Highway 108 for a vegetation fire. Grass 26 arrived on scene to find a 30’ x 40’ spot of grass and trash on fire near the river bottom. They kept Engine 7 and cancelled the balance. They remined on scene for 45 minutes mopping up.

7:18 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 23, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 responded to West G Street in the City of Oakdale for a potential structure fire. While responding, the call was upgraded to a working residential structure fire, bringing Engine 9, Engine 22, Engine 24, Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 2. Crews arrived on scene to find one mobile home well involved, with two other structures catching fire. Through an aggressive fire attack, crews stopped the forward progress, limiting the damage. One mobile home was completely destroyed and three others suffered significant damage. The FIU was on scene conducting a cause and origin investigation. Red Cross assisted two adults with temporary housing.

 

TUESDAY, AUG. 13

Battalion 5: 6:35 a.m. – Engine 28, E27, E29 and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident rollover with a pin-in on Highway 4 just east of Milton Road. BC5 arrived on scene and found a water truck that blew a tire and went off the roadway and overturned several times into a field. The driver was trapped in the cab and had moderate injuries. Crews extricated him and he was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
