Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 20 through Monday, June 26. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JUNE 26

The training division continued the drivers training course at the RFTC.

Paramedic crews rotated though advanced airway training at PHI. Training focused on new tools and techniques for establishing an airway.

Battalion 2: Engine checks were the priority for the day, crews spent the day inspecting and maintaining first out equipment.

E26 trained on Master stream appliances and supplies.

Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday apparatus checks.

Driver Operator 1B Class continued at the RFTC.

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 25

Battalion 2: Station 26 crews trained on rope systems.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 completed hydrant maintenance.

Fire Station 29 personnel conducted boat training on the Stanislaus River.

Engine 27 conducted training (pumping evolutions) in prep for the upcoming Engineer’s exam.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 24

Battalion 5: Engine 28 and BC5 attended the Van Pelt Fire Apparatus 100-year celebration. Various fire apparatus was on display in Oakdale. The fire department was recognized for maintaining two historical City of Oakdale fire engines; one being the very first ever manufactured for Van Pelt.

Engine 28 and BC5 participated in the Oakdale Enrichment Society’s All American Bash. A parade concluded at Dorada Park with various activities and a concert in the park.

8:50 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 26, and BC5 responded to an injury accident on Highway 108 and Dillwood Road. The ambulance was delayed from Modesto and Engine 29 was added to the response for paramedic capability. A total of three persons involved with two being transported to the hospital. The paramedic from Engine 29 rode in the ambulance to provide treatment. CHP investigating.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 23

Battalion 2: 12:50 p.m. – Engine 26, Grass and Water Tender 27 responded to a roadside vegetation fire in the area of Kentucky and Eleanor. The fire was quickly contained, and the cause is under investigation.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 22

Technical Rescue Companies, T1, T5, and SQ11 worked on emergency shoring techniques.

Battalion 5: 8:17 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 4 and Milton Road. While responding, reports indicated that there was an occupant trapped in one of the three involved vehicles. Engine 28 arrived on scene with three vehicles involved blocking the westbound lanes of traffic. All occupants were out of the vehicles and one patient was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The responding balance was cancelled.

5:26 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries in the 10000 block of Valley Home Road. Upon arrival there were two vehicles involved on the shoulder of the road. There was a total of two patients with minor injuries that were transported by ground ambulances to local hospitals. CHP is investigating.

10:51 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Engine 23, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries at Claribel Road and Oakdale-Waterford Highway with a report of the vehicle on fire unknown if occupants were still inside. While enroute, we were updated that everyone was out of the vehicle. Crews arrived on scene of a fully involved vehicle with vegetation on the side of the road. The solo occupant of the vehicle was evaluated by ambulance on scene. CHP is investigating.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21

The training division continued the driver operator course at the RFTC.

Crews performed weekly checks on auxiliary apparatus.

Battalion 2: 6:30 p.m. – Stanislaus Water 23 and BC2 assisted CalFire TCU with a vegetation fire on Harney Road near Don Pedro.

Battalion 5: Engine 29’s crew assisted with Wildland Operations Training in Knights Ferry for the new hire academy.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 20

The technical rescue team, consisting of Trucks 1 and 5 and SQ11 participated in monthly training focusing on shoring.

The training division continued with the Driver Operator class at the RFTC.

Battalion 2: Engine and station maintenance was performed by all companies.

Engine 26 met with Escalon Fire to become more familiar with their capabilities and operations.

Battalion 5: Crews worked on station maintenance and apparatus clean up.

Engine 28 assisted with the new hire academy at Station 17.

Engine 27 conducted training on arrival reports, scene size up and hose line deployments.
