The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 23 through Monday, May 29. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MAY 29
Battalion 2: 6:02 p.m. – Brush 24, Brush 23, Brush 28, Grass 21, Engine 33, Water Tender 21, Water Tender 23, and Battalion 2 responded to 15825 Lampley for a vegetation fire. A dry oat field in the process of being cut caught fire burning 1.16 acres.
Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 27 performed company level training focusing on hose pulls and estimations.
SUNDAY, MAY 28
Battalion 2: 12:31 p.m. – Stanislaus Engine 26 was dispatched to an EMS call and upon arriving on scene Engine 26 located a patient in cardiac arrest and immediately began CPR. After 10 minutes of CPR, ROSC (Return Of Spontaneous Circulation) was achieved and the patient was transported to a local hospital emergency room.
Battalion 2 covered Turlock while Battalion 4 was at the Truck Academy.
Battalion 5: 2:22 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, and BC5 were dispatched to a water rescue on the Stanislaus River near Orange Blossom Road and Stone Avenue for a report of two people that fell out of a raft. While enroute to the scene both people were accounted for by Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies and all fire resources were canceled.
4:298 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 4 and Milton Road for reports of a vehicle vs. motorcycle. Engine 28 arrived on scene with a vehicle vs. motorcycle at the intersection with one motorcyclist down in the field. The patient suffered moderate injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a local trauma center.
SATURDAY, MAY 27
Battalion 2: Crews focused on apparatus and station maintenance.
Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 conducted area familiarization training at the Oakdale Airport.
3:14 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Quint 22, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with reported entrapment at the intersection of West F Street (Highway 108) and Crane Road in Oakdale. Crews arrived with one vehicle on its side on West F Street. All occupants were out of the vehicle refusing medical treatment.
5:33 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 were dispatched to a medical aid for a possible drowning. Crews arrived and began initial patient care with Oak Valley ambulance. The patient was transported from the scene to a local emergency room.
8:53 p.m. – Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire in the 11000 block of Walnut Avenue in the community of Valley Home. Crews located a quarter-acre of grass on fire at the back of a field with a slow rate of spread. Crews spent the next 30 minutes mopping up the burned area. Engine 29 provided coverage for Fire Station 28.
FRIDAY, MAY 26
Crews rotated through administration training at Fire Station 1.
Battalion 2: Crews focused on apparatus and station maintenance.
E24, E26 and Q22 met at Pick and Pull for auto extrication training. E21 moved to Station 26 for coverage and E23 moved to Station 24.
Battalion 5: 4:30 p.m. – Engine 28, E27 and BC5 responded to a reported vegetation fire off of Greger Street in Oakdale. Crews arrived with a vegetation fire in between two commercial processing plants. Crews extinguished the fire quickly and without any threat to exposures.
THURSDAY, MAY 25
Battalion 2: 9:13 a.m. – Engine 7, Grass 26, and Battalion 2 responded to a vegetation fire on Sylvan at Roselle with a quarter-acre of grass burning.
Battalion 5: Crews rotated through EMS quarterly training.
Engine 28 assisted with the engineer’s academy.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 24
Battalion 5: Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS Training at Fire Station 22. The focus of the training was providing patient care for traumatic injuries.
Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
TUESDAY, MAY 23
Battalion 2: 10:29 a.m. – Engine 26, Truck 5 and BC5 responded to the 5300 block of Claus Road for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived to find three vehicles were involved with one immediate patient. Riverbank Police investigating.
9:19 p.m. – MST Units responded to a report of a working structure fire on Langworth Road near Milnes. Engine 9 arrived on scene and found a large debris pile and vegetation burning. Engine 9, Engine 26, Engine 23 and BC2 remained on scene for several hours overhauling the fire.
Battalion 5: Crews participated in boat training on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.
