Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 5-29-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 21 through Monday, May 27. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, MAY 27

Battalion 2: Engine 26 attended a Memorial remembrance ceremony at the Riverbank Community Center. Director Charles Neal provided the invocation.

Battalion 5: Crews completed their Monday checks on all apparatus making sure everything was in good working order.

Engine 27 and their probationary firefighter went to Pick N Pull to train on auto extrication.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 26

Battalion 2: Crews completed EMS inventory.

Firefighters participated in a Safety Standdown on Vector Solutions.

Engine 26 trained on portable monitors.

Battalion 5: Engine 29 hosted FMA training for Battalion 5 units on rope rescue practices at the covered bridge in Knights Ferry.

1:55 p.m. – Two Water Rescue units and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a report of a drowning at Woodward Reservoir. Units went on scene and searched the area with the Sheriff’s Department boat. After an hour the rescue transitioned into recovery efforts and the dive team was called out. All fire units were then cleared, and the search continued for the missing swimmer. He was found deceased at approximately 8 p.m.

5:36 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a solo motorcycle rider down on Stearns Road. Crews arrived on scene and found the rider down off the side of the road. He had moderate to major injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 25

Battalion 2: Engine 26 trained on salvage covers and folds in preparation for upcoming testing.

Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 27 and Engine 28 conducted chainsaw training.

3:36 p.m. – Modesto Grass 3, Stanislaus Quint 22, Engine 23/Water Tender 23, Engine 26, and Battalion Chief 5 responded to a vegetation fire near the intersection of Claribel Road and Terminal Avenue. Upon arrival there was approximately a 30’ by 100’ roadside grass fire. Crews quickly extinguished and mopped up the area. While crews worked in the railroad easement the rail traffic was held for firefighter safety.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 24

Battalion 2: Engine 23 participated in the “Fun Day” event at Cardozo Middle School in Riverbank.

Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 28’s crew conducted Probationary Firefighter Training focused on rope rescue.

11:57 a.m. – Modesto Engine 7, Engine 27/Water Tender 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Engine 26, Engine 23/Water Tender 23, Quint 22, BC2, BC5, Medic 1, and FIU were dispatched to a residential working structure fire in the 10000 block of Sawyer Avenue in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene with a debris pile on fire not threatening any structures. Engine 28 continued Engine 26 and Engine 27 to the scene for assistance and cancelled the remaining balance.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 23

Battalion 2: Engine 23 and BC2 spent the morning at Fire Station 25 (La Grange) improving defensible space around the firehouse.

Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Engine 28 participated in hazmat training with the bomb squad.

Companies performed training in their perspective FMA’s.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 22

Battalion 2: 10:27 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to Carver Road for a mower that caught fire in a field while in operation.

Engine 23 completed the break-in hours on the new boat that is expected to go into service as Water Rescue 26 soon.

Engine 26 hosted a member of Riverbank City Council for a ride along. As well as running several calls they took time to teach about the job and fire district.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 conducted training on foam inductor operations.

4:14 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass 27, Grass 29, Water Tender 27, BC5 and CalFire TCU responded to the report of grass on fire at Woodward Reservoir. Crews arrived to find one-eighth of an acre of grass that was extinguished by park rangers. Brush 28 and Engine 4462 remained on scene to mop up and place a control line around the fire.

 

TUESDAY, MAY 21

Chief Wise and the Deputy Chiefs held an MST operational briefing over Teams.

Battalion 2: 1:29 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a three-vehicle accident near the intersection of Estelle and Patterson roads. There were three minor injuries, and all parties were transported to local hospitals by Oak Valley Ambulance.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained on rope systems with their probationary firefighter at Station 27.

7:45 a.m. – Engine 29 responded to a report of an overturned semi on Highway 108. Upon arrival the driver was found out of the vehicle and uninjured. During the traffic back up another semi heading in the opposite direction didn’t stop in time and had to veer off the roadway becoming stuck on the shoulder.

9:56 a.m. – Engine 28 was dispatched to Hi-Tech Parkway for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, Engine 8 reported a Gilton garbage truck dropped its load in the middle of the street that was on fire. Engine 28 quickly extinguished the fire. OPD assisting with traffic control.
